Changes to Cards in the September 26 Release

Hello folks! We previously announced that we'd inform you of changes to cards on September 25 (PT), but due to numerous events and tournaments we have scheduled, they're coming to you early this month. In this release, changes will be made to a total of five cards. This is an explanation of what we're changing and why.

What's Changing?

1. Gremory will be limited to one copy in Unlimited.

2. Vengeful Puppeteer Noah's cost will be increased by 1.

3. Nicholas, Stalwart Inventor's cost, attack, and defense will be increased by 1, and its Enhance effect will be changed.

4. Valse, Magical Marksman's defense will be increased by 1.

5. Purson's Accelerate cost will be decreased by 1.

For a limited time after the update, Gremory; Vengeful Puppeteer Noah; and Nicholas, Stalwart Inventor will produce more vials when liquefied. Since Valse, Magical Marksman and Purson are being strengthened, they will not receive a vial bonus when liquefied.

The Current Game Environment

Unlimited

In Unlimited, according to the data we gathered in early September from high-ranking matches, Midrange Shadowcraft (decks that rely on Demonlord Eachtar at the tip of the cost curve to play defensively or offensively depending on the matchup) had the highest win rate at 58.7% and the highest usage rate at 20.5%.

Before the August 20 release of additional cards to Brigade of the Sky, Midrange Shadowcraft wasn't this powerful. Therefore, we believe that Gremory should be limited to one copy in Unlimited.

Rotation

In Rotation, according to the data we gathered in early September from high-ranking matches, Puppet Portalcraft (decks that both strengthen and put Puppets into the player's hand) had the highest win rate at 57.8 % and the highest usage rate at 19.8%.

Although a new card set will be released on September 26, unlike other classes, no Portalcraft cards will be rotated out. This may lead to continued high win and usage rates. Therefore, we've decided to change Vengeful Puppeteer Noah and Nicholas, Stalwart Inventor to create a more diverse environment.

Also in Rotation, because Swordcraft and Bloodcraft have low usage rates, we have decided to strengthen one card in both classes in to coincide with the release of the new card set and contribute to a more diverse game environment.

We've found that players going first in Unlimited had win rates of 52.2% across all deck archetypes (early August win rates were at 51.3%). As for Rotation, we've found that players going first had win rates of 52.8% across all deck archetypes (early August win rates were at 53.2%). We'll continue to keep an eye on the game environment with the addition of the new card set to see if any adjustments to effects or cost are needed.

Take Two Runs

These changes will also be applied to all Take Two decks after maintenance, even decks that are being used in the middle of a five-match run.

Future Changes to Cards

We routinely review match data in the Shadowverse Team. In order to maintain a great game environment, we change card costs and effects and boost the number of vials that are available from liquefying cards when their strength is reduced. This includes both of our constructed formats, Rotation and Unlimited. In addition to the card changes we’ve made in the past and card changes targeted at Rotation, we will designate cards to have a one-card restriction or card bans for Unlimited.

Any future changes to card costs and effects will be announced in advance, and then changes will generally be made the next day. See below for the change date.

November 25 (Change)

This date is, however, subject to change. Even if there are no changes made to cards, we'll still announce that things are staying the same. If emergency changes are deemed necessary, we may make changes, specify restrictions, or specify banned cards outside of the above dates.

That's all for this time. May you rule the Shadowverse!
